While the exact number is unknown, Minecraft has sold at least 12 million copies on the Xbox 360 which warrants it an inclusion on the best-selling Xbox 360 games of all time at the number six slot, but it could possibly deserve higher. It's said to have sold 5.23 million units if we're going by hard copies, but as of April, Microsoft confirmed that Minecraft had sold over 12 million units on the system including digital purchases. Of course that would be the primary purchase method of a game like Minecraft, due to its small file size, availability and need for online updates and content packs. Mojang said that they'd have been extremely happy to just sell over 1 million units on the console, but have since smashed that goal in absurd fashion. The broad appeal, applicability and replay value of Minecraft can't be denied, it's a true success story to see what originally started out as humble indie-ware on the best-selling titles list. That being said, its success isn't directly comparable to other games on this list due to the much lower retail price, software and method of purchase, so take its inclusion with a small pinch of salt.
