Ultimately first person shooters - particularly militaristic ones were the defining popular genre of the seventh generation of gaming consoles, overtly proved by the consistent sales success of Call of Duty titles. Within 24 hours of going on sale Black Ops II brought in over $500 million, reportedly making a huge chunk of that in midnight releases across the U.S and as apparently more than 2.5 million people queued at over 16,000 stores. The game grossed more than $800 million after 5 days, breaking the previous record of $400 million in one day of sales.While Black Ops II had reportedly sold more than 7.5 million copies on launch day according to Activision reports, its sales didn't continue at such a vast rate.
