2. Resident Evil Village

Resident Evil Village Combat
Capcom

Arguably the most ambitious Resident Evil in quite some time, where RE7 felt like it landed in the post-P.T., first person horror zeitgeist of 2017, Resident Evil Village proves Capcom can knit together any strand of horror into one unifying Resident Evil-branded experience.

Where trailers showed off the hulking Lady Dimitrescu, in-game she's out the way in the first quarter.

Forming one of many "lords" governing part of the Village itself, what unfolds is another overblown tale of human experimentation, but one that brings in werewolves, ghosts, mutated Silent Hill-style abominations and some of the meatiest combat Capcom have ever devised.

This is a veteran studio proving Resident Evil 7's perspective switch wasn't a one-off experiment, carving out a whole new series identity for the franchise going forward.
