10 Best Video Games Of The Decade (So Far)
7. Black Myth Wukong
For 400 years, Journey to the West has remained the most celebrated story in China and among the most culturally influential tale of all time.
Though the classic novel has been adapted into many mediums, none have nailed it better than Black Myth: Wukong. Despite only working with mobile titles up until this point, Game Science delivered a game that's one for the ages.
There are a few minor quibbles, but the gorgeous artwork, brimming content, lively gameplay, awe-inspiring score, unique boss designs, and tremendous combat system more than makes up for it. Even though the Asian folklore is dense and fantastical, it resonated with the Western audience, due to the beautifully written story and grounded characters.
Despite the high praise, Black Myth wasn't a guaranteed smash hit, since the source material and developers aren't globally recognised. That's why it was inspiring to see the first Chinese AAA title reach two million concurrent players on Steam and sell 18 million units in two weeks, making it one of the fastest selling games ever.
(And to think, Astro Bot beat Black Myth: Wukong for Game of the Year)
