10 Best Weapons In DOOM History - Ranked
3. Super Shotgun - Doom 2 & Doom Eternal
This weapon is listed for two games because it so fundamentally changed the gameplay in each.
The Super Shotgun is a sawed-off double-barrel shotgun that is absolutely deadly in close quarters and the only new weapon introduced in Doom 2.
It was worth the wait.
The Super Shotgun packs the same kind of damage as the Rocket Launcher, with no danger of splash damage, only in close quarters and at the cost of two measly shotgun shells, which are far more plentiful than rocket ammo. However, the Super Shotgun is slow to load and useless at any distance.
Still, even with these drawbacks, in the Doom Slayer's hands, if its pointed in the right direction and used properly, you win the fight.
Doom Eternal's Super Shotgun retains the properties of its ancestor, being absolutely brutal in close quarters and even fairly useful at medium range for room-clearing.
What takes Eternal's Super Shotgun over the top is the addition of the Meat Hook.
Yes, you read that right.
The Meat Hook is an integrated grappling hook that both allows the Doom Slayer to traverse areas of the map and, much more awesomely, grapple onto enemies to close the distance between them before opening up with both barrels. After 50 kills with the Super Shotgun, the Doom Slayer gains the opportunity to have the Meat Hook set enemies on fire before blasting them.
Everything is better with flaming hooks.
