10 Biggest Game Of The Year 2017 Contenders So Far

3. Resident Evil 7

A big gamble for Capcom, Resident Evil 7's switch to first person managed to defy all expectations and become one of the finest experiences of the year so far.

The argument that Resident Evil has long since lost its way has been well and truly refuted. The most recent entries have all been focused on action and set pieces rather than the horror that made the series famous - but that's where Resident Evil 7 goes against its own grain by crafting a phenomenally subdued survival horror experience.

Every single element of Resident Evil 7 feels like it's been finely tuned to match the first-person perspective. Despite Capcom getting a lot of flack for switching to this view, RE7 still retains everything that makes it Resident Evil. A sick sense of humour? Check. A memorable location? Check. Amazing villains? Absolutely.

The future for Resident Evil is once again bright, all because of this. Managing to revive a slowly dying franchise is no small feat, but Resident Evil 7 certainly managed it.
