10 Biggest Game Of The Year 2017 Contenders So Far
2. Nioh
The long development time for Nioh definitely paid off for Team Ninja, as they managed to make one of the best console exclusives the PS4 has seen since launch.
Despite being labelled as nothing more than a 'Dark Souls clone' by people who had only played the alpha, Nioh actually stands out as being both faster and harder. Timing is crucial in Nioh and the range of magic skills and weapons that can be learnt add a huge amount of depth to a fantastic combat system.
Nioh isn't a cruel game either. Whilst some deaths in the Souls Borne games feel unfair and cheap, Nioh makes every death feel earned. Can't get past a certain boss? Then get better. The lack of hand holding and presence of true difficulty is actually one of the reasons Nioh is so fantastic to play.
For a relatively unknown game, Nioh has managed to rise above huge triple A releases with ease. It deserves all of the praise.
