10 Biggest Gaming Moments of 2012

4. Journey Is Nominated For A Grammy Award

Video game scores have come a long way in the last decade or so, with developers like Harry Gregson-Williams helping to constantly push the bar and ensure that they can be held in the same regard as the scores we'd expect to hear in films. Though this one has been a long time coming, it was genuinely thrilling to see Journey's wonderful score, composed by Austin Wintory, appear among the nominees in the Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media section. Though the winners aren't announced yet - and if it was given to Journey, that would be another fantastic milestone - the nomination is itself another step towards legitimising video games as art outside of their own self-congratulatory circles such as the VGAs. Given how video game scores have been competing with the movies for years, it's great to see that an independent body has finally started to realise that, and we'll be rooting for Wintory all the way come February.
