Ghostrunner was one of the world's most hotly-anticipated titles across 2021 and was often regarded as the title that was going to set the standard for non-AAA games on the PS5. If its PC version was anything to go on, that is.

And whilst the game launched on PS4 in 2020 with plenty of players and critics purring at its unique art style and smart level design that allows players to clear areas in unique ways, there were a number of technical issues that became just as infamous.

It was hoped that the release of the PS5 version of the game this year would help fix a lot of these technical issues, but sadly this wasn't the case either. The PS5 version of Ghostrunner didn't take advantage of the DualSense controller and kept the same audio prompts and rumbles from the original version. But, the most glaring technical issues that remained unresolved were around the game's platforming, with players bemoaning the tether-to-a-point, wall-running, and yellow rail features for being just as messy in the next-gen as they were in the last-gen versions.

Ultimately, the PS5 version of Ghostrunner came delivered with a whole lot of promise but failed to really stand out as a genuine next-gen title. The visual overhauls were great and the faster loading times made dying a lot more bearable, however, the same technical issues and puzzling platforming prevented the game from being catapulted up a level.
