2. Konami Cancels Silent Hills

P.T. was one of the most unexpected and effectively creepy horror releases of 2014, despite the fact that it was only a teaser for a new Silent Hill game. Titled Silent Hills, this new instalment immediately became highly anticipated by pretty much everyone, even those who had never played an entry in the series. Contributing to the buzz was the reveal that Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima and acclaimed horror/fantasy director Guillermo del Toro would be collaborating to bring this new vision to the long running series, with both stating that P.T. was merely a taste of the tone and atmosphere they aimed to create. Instantly, the future was looking bright for a franchise that had been losing relevance with each passing year. And then it all came crashing down. In March, rumors first started swirling of Kojima€™s conflicts with Konami. Then Guillermo del Toro and Norman Reedus, who would€™ve starred in the game, stated that Silent Hills was canceled. That same day Konami announced they would be pulling P.T. from the Playstation Network. Finally, everyone€™s fears were realized when Konami confirmed that Silent Hills was indeed canceled. This was a huge blow to those who had been looking forward to the game, especially Silent Hill fans, who had hoped that this new game would reinvigorate the franchise. The removal of P.T. outraged everyone, as many saw it as a work of art separate from the Silent Hill brand that deserved to exist.
