Need For Speed is all well and good, but remember Burnout 3? It was spectacular. All it took following a couple of eyeball-searingly fast first instalments was to add the 'takedown' mechanic that let you ram opponents off the road, and this third arcade racer struck gold. Following that, developers Criterion did the fantastic open-world Burnout: Paradise before being bought up by EA and revamping the Need for Speed series. However, last year saw them debut some new footage of a game that appeared to let you drive everything from cars and bikes to planes and other airborne travel, tapping into the multi-vehicular carnage prevalent in the MX vs. ATV series. Since that initial showing though, there's been nothing shown - literally nothing, although EA are rumoured to be rebooting Need for Speed using an in-house studio, freeing these guys up to deliver another solid instalment.
