10 Botched Features That Almost Ruined Iconic Video Games
2. Mass Effect's Original Inventory System
While the later games veered closer to the action side of things, the original Mass Effect was an RPG through and through. Overflowing with new weapons, armour and abilities for Commander Shepard to acquire, every mission ended with players having about 30 new items that they didn't have before.
With the sheer amount of resources to keep track of though, things could easily get overwhelming. Unfortunately Bioware only made matters worse, and while the loot system added a huge amount of variety to the title, the way the developers organised it all into an inventory system just about killed all the enjoyment that could have been gained from picking up a flashy new bit of gear.
A complete shambles, the inventory was a cumbersome mess that made it hard to even keep track of the items you'd recently picked up, never mind see how they stacked up against the gear you already had.
Instead of sorting out the system for future games though, Bioware decided to just remove most of the loot drops entirely, which to many fans was seen as the devs cutting off their nose to spite their face.
