10 Bullsh*t Video Game Deaths You Just Had To Live With
1. Paarthurnax - The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
As any Skyrim player will tell you, the whole Paarthurnax debate is a real can of worms.
The protagonist is the Dragonborn, a warrior with the ability to absorb the souls of these great reptilian beasts upon their death. Dragons are less than friendly creatures, burning, eating and consuming anything and everything they please (this is drummed into us in the game’s very dramatic intro).
Paarthurnax is one such creature, an ancient being who fought against mankind in the Dragon War and now seeks redemption. Working against his fellow dragons in aid of the Dovahkiin, he has powerful enemies in the Blades. The player is repeatedly pushed to kill him, with the main questline seemingly guiding them to do so.
While this isn’t strictly unavoidable, you wouldn’t think so to listen to Delphine. While some players may have no qualms about killing Paarthurnax, his wise, helpful, wanna-be-your-dragon-buddy nature has caused many players to do just that, then instantly regret their decision and reload their save. Of all the NPCs in Skyrim, few can evoke such feelings like Paarthurnax.
