10 Canceled Open-World Games You Wish They Hadn't Killed

2. Scalebound

Now, here’s another one that really, really stung. Scalebound was shaping up to be one heck of an action RPG, and as any PlatinumGames fan will tell you, it’s nothing short of a travesty that we’ll (seemingly) never get to play it.

PlatinumGames, of course, are well known for their visually astonishing, super flashy action titles (such as Bayonetta, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and Nintendo Switch’s Astral Chain, to name but three). The things they could’ve done with a concept like Scalebound’s –in which the player character and their dragon companion battle foes together and grow increasingly more powerful—are just mind-boggling to think about.

There was a lot of hype surrounding the game after its showcase at Gamescom 2015, but issues between PlatinumGames and Microsoft led to its delay and eventual cancellation in early 2017. It’s in Microsoft’s hands now, or perhaps even Nintendo's, so there’s still hope that the project may be completed someday.
