10 Cancelled Star Wars Games We’ll NEVER Get Over
9. Star Wars: Attack Squadrons
Although there've been many Star Wars titles where you can helm iconic starfighters, Area 52's cancelled Star Wars: Attack Squadrons seemed to offer more variety.
Star Wars: Attack Squadrons aimed to deliver 16-player dogfights set in iconic locations across the galaxy far, far away. Players could pilot and customise classic vessels like the X-Wing, TIE Fighter, Y-Wing, and TIE Interceptor. The game would've featured three multiplayer modes - Free For All, Team Dogfight, and Base Defense, offering a diverse range of gameplay. On top of that, Attack Squadrons was designed to run directly in web browsers, so players didn't need a high-end gaming PC.
In January 2014, Attack Squadrons entered closed beta testing, giving players the first taste of the game. It was a little clunky, but there was nothing that couldn't be cleaned up with a few patches.
Instead, the studio heads scrapped the whole thing five months after it was made playable.
But it's not all bad. In 2020, a similar game was released called Star Wars: Squadrons that was more polished, and featured VR support and a comprehensive single-player campaign.
It's irritating when a potentially great game gets the chop, but we probably got a better one in the end, hence why Star Wars: Attack Squadrons ranks low on the list.
