10 Cancelled Star Wars Games We’ll NEVER Get Over
8. Star Wars: Imperial Commando
Set during the Clone Wars era, Star Wars: Republic Commando offered a more grounded take on the franchise, focusing on the elite clone troopers that operated behind Separatist lines.
Though the squad-based tactical shooter spawned a mobile follow-up and multiple novels, a direct video game sequel was also planned. Rather than churning out more of the same, Star Wars: Imperial Commando would have gone in a very different direction. The sequel would've taken place after the rise of the Empire, showing how the clone commandos transitioned from heroes of the Republic to Vader's henchmen.
The game was expected to delve into darker moral territory, with Delta Squad forced to hunt down their former allies, the Jedi. Having the clone squad embracing or resisting their new Imperial roles wouldn't have just been fascinating to experience, but also tragic - especially given the unresolved fate of Delta's sharpshooter, Sev.
Sadly, low sales of Star Wars: Republic Commando saw development on its successor being dismantled. Even though Imperial Commando sounded like a great idea, it never moved beyond concept art, becoming one of many no-brainer Star Wars game sequels cancelled by LucasArts during the mid-to-late 2000s.
With that said, Republic Commando's legacy still looms large, with the game's depiction of the clones heavily influencing Star Wars: The Clone Wars and its associated animated spin-offs. While it's unlikely Imperial Commando will ever be revived as a concept, given the inclusion of commandos in Star Wars Battlefront II, one would hope that Delta will have more gaming appearances in the future.
