10 Cancelled Star Wars Games We’ll NEVER Get Over
7. Star Wars: Outpost
A Star Wars game modelled off Farmville sounds like the last thing anyone asked for. However, Star Wars: Outpost had promise.
Players would manage planetary outposts, trade resources, and choose to align with either the Empire or the Rebel Alliance. Though it had the same structure as Farmville, the mobile title was heavily entrenched in Star Wars lore, allowing players to betray others for items. It also utilised strategy-based gameplay, akin to EVE Online and Settlers of Catan.
Not only that, Outpost was planned to integrate with another game that got shut down: Star Wars: First Assault - a Call of Duty-style FPS title that was set in the Galactic Civil War. Players could construct weapons and ships in Outpost before using them in First Assault, creating a connected gameplay experience.
Although Star Wars: Outpost was near completion, it was abandoned in 2013 after Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm led to the shutdown of LucasArts.
Despite being axed, Star Wars: Outpost remains a notable example of the ambitious projects LucasArts had in development prior to the studio's closure. The project's blend of social strategy and resource management within the Star Wars universe serves as a reminder of the direction the franchise's gaming experiences could've taken.
