10 Classic Multiplayer Video Games You Must Play Before You Die

For 25 years, Mario Kart has filled our hearts with joy when we win, and crushing despair when we lose. It is a thing of beauty and evil at the same time- the ultimate video game contradiction.

There have been many incarnations of Mario Kart since it power-slid its way into our lives on the Super Nintendo back in 1992. It was the birth of four-player racing with Mario Kart 64, that stole our hearts though.

With the N64 being a console whose very raison d'ĂȘtre was its multiplayer functionality, Mario Kart was the perfect fit. A social evolution for the series from its two-player SNES heyday.

While the racing itself was always fun, it was the weapons that elevated Mario Kart into the realm of being a classic party game. Never have close friendships been put to the test more than a perfectly-timed red shell taking you out on the last lap of a race you were about to win.

The agony of then seeing your pals mercilessly whizz past your dazed vehicle is a pain that can't easily be forgotten - but one everyone should experience.
