10 CLASSIC Video Game Commercials That Were Peak
9. Super Mario Bros. 3

Super Mario Bros. didn't just make Nintendo a household name, but pretty much saved the gaming industry after the disastrous Video Game Crash of 1983.
After the iconic platformer dominated sales, Nintendo got to work on a sequel. Despite being well-received, Super Mario Bros. 2 wasn't exactly a showstopper, (mainly because it was a reskin of a totally separate title).
But as soon as Super Mario Bros. 3's commercial aired, it was apparent this follow-up wasn't just a game, but a momentous event. The advertisement opens with dozens of people wearing blue in a field, chanting Mario's name. As the camera zooms out, we see hundreds of people performing the same chant, this time dressed in red and white.
As the camera pans out fully, we get a shot from space, revealing this crowd, which numbers in the millions, have formed a giant image of Mario's face. Not only is this a delightful reveal, it establishes the Nintendo mascot's impact on the world. On top of that, it's a seamless special effect, even by today's standards.
Despite showing no footage from the game itself, this commercial made gamers excited for Super Mario Bros. 3 beyond measure.
