8. Final Fantasy VII Remake

Few games have been screaming for a remake more than Final Fantasy VII. With that in mind, it's no surprise there were rumblings of such a project since the early 2000s. However, nothing ever seemed to come of these rumours.

But in 2015, Square Enix dropped a teaser, proving a FFVII reboot was in the works. Although this was exciting news, almost nothing else was revealed for years, suggesting the developers quietly pulled the plug. Even if FVII Remake saw the light of day, it didn't seem feasible for it to live up to the hype.

Fortunately, all cynicism evaporated in 2019 when the official trailer for FFVII Remake was released. The trailer surpassed all expectations, since it encapsulated everything that made the original special.

While admiring the divine graphics, Cloud's interactions with his troop, the reinvented battle system, and the majestic score, it seemed like Remake was everything we could've ever hoped for.

This trailer wasn't just satisfying but validating, since it signalled the long, long wait was nearly over and fans' loyalty had paid off, since they would soon return to Midgar as their favourite Materia-hunting heroes.
