10 Creepy Gaming Soundtracks Guaranteed To Fuel Your Nightmares

5. Little Nightmares

A slightly more ‘family friendly’ game to be played on cold autumn days, Little Nightmares is no less creepy to both younger and older gamers. Taking very obvious inspiration in design and animation from films such as Coraline is probably the main reason for this. With this in mind, visually Little Nightmares is the perfect horror title for players of a more sensitive disposition.

The soundtrack for Little Nightmares then, is one that would not feel out of place in any of the films that it so closely resembles. Mirroring the game's perspective from that of a young child, the soundtrack relies heavy on the use of music box style sounds.

However, instead of playing a lovely interlude from a ballerina figure in a jewellery box, the music is played in atmospheric, minor keys. It goes further to reflect the protagonist's perspective by being played alongside high pitched, sharp music that makes the environments seem even bigger than they already do thanks to the game's depth of field.

That’s not to say that this is a game that relies heavily on the soundtrack during gameplay. Quite the opposite in fact: the player will spend most of the game in almost total silence, with low droning tones only adding to the sense of distress, and an increase in dynamics only occurring when the protagonist has alerted NPCs to their presence.
