10 Critically-Acclaimed 2013 Video Games (With Major Gameplay Flaws)
10. The Idiot AI - The Last Of Us
2014 is here, and unsurprisingly, The Last Of Us is topping many Game Of The Year 2013 lists, and rightfully so, because Naughty Dog's critically acclaimed games is a one of a kind experience melding tense and sometimes sporadic gameplay with a narrative flair amongst the best gaming has seen. The partnership between Joel and Ellie is one of the best to be experienced and the supporting characters do incredibly well to strengthen the emotional core. It is for this reason, that many players are sometimes taken out of the game due to the inconsistent artificial intelligence of the non-player characters during combat. As previously stated, combat in The Last Of Us is tense, sometimes requiring stealth and deft movement to survive. Being noticed can seriously throw your plans off, which welcomes the question: why can the enemy see your character plain as day, but is somehow blind to the goings-on of your allies? To be sure, making your allies visible to the enemies would complicate things enormously without the correct programming, but the issue lies in the issue itself. Problems with AI cause problems with immersion, which has proven to be a major detractor for other games with similar issues, but for The Last Of Us, this typically unsightly mechanic is shaken off in favor of the overall package. But what a package it is.
