10 Crucial Questions We Have For 2017's Remaining Video Games

4. How Has Cuphead Adapted To Not Being A Series Of Boss Battles?

No one's sounding the alarm sirens for the S.S. Xbox just yet, but when a former indie title (and a damn fine-looking one at that) is one of only three launch titles for your next system, it might be cause to start looking for the life jackets.

This goes alongside the fact that Cuphead was initially designed to be a series of boss battles; a 'rush'-type game a la Furi, where Studio MDHR's sumptuous art style saw the titular Cuphead battle a sequence of unique foes, before the credits roll.

Following this pitch getting out in public though, we promptly screamed "Please give us a single player story!", to which the devs went "Oh, alright then!", resulting in copious delays, and a game whose levels now see those run n' gun boss mechanics applied throughout.

There's even a Super Mario World-connoting overworld in between levels, but the jury's out on whether Studio MDHR can create a set of levels from nothing, when no part of the game's initial pitch included them.
