10 Crucial Questions We Have For 2017's Remaining Video Games
3. Is Need For Speed: Payback The Next Burnout?
Speaking of the jury being out, Need for Speed: Payback had one hell of a gameplay demo at E3, though when the Need for Speed itself is struggling to maintain any sense of identity, it's failed to catch on.
Chances are you didn't know NFS actually rebooted itself in 2015, emerging with a bizarre 'youth culture'-focused mentality and a really desperate, try-hard identity. With Payback, new studio Ghost Games has been formed from the remnants of Burnout-developers Criterion and various other ex-Need for Speed people, emerging as something of a super team, ready to get the series back on track.
So far we've seen some very Fast & the Furious-influenced heist gameplay, a ton of side-swipe takedowns (that come with the Burnout 'takedown cam') and an attempt to include a character-focused campaign.
Even if the latter fails, providing this can channel the halcyon days of Burnout Takedown, it'll be a huge win for many arcade racing fans.
