10 Cruel Tricks Video Games Played On FPS Players
3. Get Rich & Die At The End - S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow Of Chernobyl
You could certainly argue that S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl is a brutal, prolonged exercise in cruelty from start to finish - a fiendishly difficult survival horror FPS that takes no prisoners.
As a result, you can't really be blamed for playing cautiously, being conservative with resources, and basically hoarding as much as humanly possible.
And yet, because developers GSC Game World apparently see money as the root of all evil - and, honestly, they're not wrong - anyone who reaches the end of the game with a decent wedge of cash will get the ultimate punishment for it.
If you've got more than 50,000 RU at game's end, you'll receive the so-called "greedy ending" - a video sequence where protagonist Strelok asks the Wish Granter for masses of wealth.
At this point, Strelok appears to be showered in more coins than he can carry, but it soon becomes clear that this is actually the nuts and bolts of the ceiling above him. The roof then collapses, crushing Strelok to death.
This is the ending most players receive on their first playthrough due to the game's intense difficulty and implicit encouragement to be frugal. What a crock.
