10 Cruel Tricks Video Games Played On FPS Players

2. "Would You Kindly?" - BioShock

BioShock boasts one of the most ingeniously executed plot twists in the history of video games, where it's revealed that protagonist Jack has actually been manipulated by his apparent pal Atlas - who is actually villain Frank Fontaine in disguise - to do his bidding.

Throughout the game, Atlas uses the phrase "Would you kindly?" while asking the player to do various things, and it's ultimately revealed that this was a psychic trigger phrase used by Atlas to compel Jack to do anything he asked.

Rapture creator Andrew Ryan proves this to the player in devastatingly violent fashion late in the game by asking them to kill him while handing them a golf club.

At this moment, we're helpless to watch as Jack uses the golf club to beat Ryan to death, confirming we've been unwitting passengers to somebody else's commands for the entire game.

On one hand, it's a genius examination of the totally unquestioning means through which we play most video games, but on the other, it really stings.
