10 Dark Souls Habits You Must UNLEARN To Beat Sekiro

10. Tightly Circle-Strafing Enemies

Dark Souls players learned to quickly close distance with certain enemies, then tightly circle around them to get a backstab. It's one of the most effective ways to deal with Black Knights, for example (unless you're adept at parrying).

You can do this with some foes in Sekiro, but it's not consistent enough to be used as a reliable tactic. When an enemy has spotted you, the AI responds to your movements in a more natural, defensive way by making it difficult for you to get behind them, and many have specific animations/attacks they'll deploy if at this exact moment.

The alternative is often just to face enemies head-on and attack, dodge and deflect in rhythm with their moves, which is generally a more satisfying way to win your battles anyhow.
