10 Dark Video Games Moments That Came Out Of Nowhere
4. Dead Hand - The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time
Even though The Legend of Zelda often contains creepy elements, each entry is usually deemed to be child-friendly.
With that said, it's a mystery how Ocarina of Time received an E for Everyone rating considering how freaky Dead Hand is. Link encounters the infamous sub-boss while in The Bottom of the Well. As the Hero of Time enters the dungeon's final room, he finds himself surrounded by a horde of lanky arms sticking out of the ground. If you venture too close, one of the gaunt limbs grabs Link, causing Dead Hand to emerge from behind.
What makes this bloated zombie's entrance scarier is the fact you can't see him at first since the camera is focused on Link. However, you know something else is in the room, since you hear a gurgling and churning sound increasing in volume, indicating this creature is getting closer.
When you finally bear witness to Dead Hand, it's pretty haunting, since the amorphous cadaver looks like he'd be a better fit for Resident Evil, not The Legend of Zelda.
Although Ocarina of Time has tough enemies like Iron Knuckle and Twinrova, they look kind of goofy. Dead Hand on the other...um... hand is pure nightmare fuel.
