10 Dark Video Games Moments That Came Out Of Nowhere
5. Conker Forgot The Most Important Thing - Conker's Bad Fur Day
Despite the kiddy aesthetic, Conker's Bad Fur Day isn't for children, since it's stuffed with profanity, graphic violence and singing poo. Due to the gross-out content, the last thing anyone would expect from this platformer is something heartfelt.
And yet, Conker's Bad Fur Day ends on a real downer. Prior to the climax, Conker's girlfriend, Berri, is shot dead in front of him.
During the final battle, Conker is about to die when a glitch causes the game to freeze. Taking advantage of the situation, the foul-mouthed squirrel asks a software engineer to give him a weapon to defeat the last boss. After Conker emerges victorious, he's crowned king and inherit's the former ruler's fortune.
Conker gets so caught up in the whole ordeal, he forgets to ask the programmer to resurrect Berri. When he learns the programmer is gone, Conker realises he missed his only chance to be reunited with the love of his life.
Up until this point, everything in Conker's Bad Fur Day was crude and satirical. As a result, it was unexpected when the game takes a depressing and existential turn in the last few minutes.
