2. Legacy of Kain
Legacy of Kain is a dark fantasy action adventure series featuring the fictional world of Nosgoth, inhabited by humans and vampires.
It follows the two main protagonists Kain and Raziel through their own games, Blood Omen and Soul Reaver. Their intertwined stories were revolutionary for the art of storytelling through videogames, with the two characters clashing across multiple series entries.
Kain and Raziel's story ultimately culminated in 2003's Legacy of Kain: Defiance, seemingly closing the door to future Blood Omen or Soul Reaver titles. A free to play, multiplayer game set in the world of Legacy of Kain, titled Nosgoth released in beta form in 2013 but was ultimately shut down in 2016 without reaching a full release.
A sixth entry in the series was in development from 2009 to 2012 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, called Legacy of Kain: Dead Sun. It was cancelled in 2012 however, with Square Enix stating that it just wasn't 'the right game at the right time.'
Hopefully, the interesting fantasy world of Nosgoth can be explored once again in a future game, benefitting from modern hardware. Imagine a new Legacy of Kain game with the same stunning visuals and environments of PS5's Demon's Souls. Fingers crossed.
