10 Decisions That Killed Video Game Sequels EVERYBODY Wanted
4. Silent Hills
When Silent Hills was first revealed via PT, an interactive demo released on the PlayStation Store, it was a sign of great things to come. The Silent Hill franchise had been floundering for some time, with the painfully average Downpour being the last mainline release.
Spearheaded by Metal Gear mastermind Hideo Kojima and director Guillermo del Toro, Silent Hills starred Norman Reedus of The Walking Dead and was poised to bring the franchise back in a big way.
Rumors began to circulate on the internet that Kojima would leave Konami after development on Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain had completed, which left the future of Silent Hills up in the air. There was precedent for a title being handed over to a new team after the current director had left the studio, but Silent Hills was built upon being a Kojima-led SH title.
It all came crashing down for Silent Hills. A game that held so much promise, built to bring back one of the most beloved horror franchises of all time, was cast aside. Recent reports indicate that Silent Hills may return, either as a Kojima Productions title or even under the leadership of franchise creator Keiichiro Toyama.
However, Toyama recently left Sony and the reports of Kojima returning to the title are unsubstantiated.
