10 Deeply Disturbing Tales Of HAUNTED Video Games
5. Lavender Town Causes Suicides - Pokemon Red
This urban legend takes the distinct eeriness of Lavender Town to a new level. According to the villagers in Lavender Town, it is rumoured to be haunted by Pokemon ghosts - specifically a Marowak, who was murdered by Team Rocket and is looking for its orphaned Cubone.
Lavender Town is also home to The Pokemon Tower, a place where dead Pokemon are laid to rest. At the Tower, you come across your arch nemesis, who is in town to bury his dead Raticate - which some fans believe died after your last battle with him.
The creepiest thing about Lavender Town though, is its theme music and the beta version of the game, released in Japan in 1996, had some high pitched frequency glitches that were thankfully fixed before the main release.
Due to their sensitive hearing, children aged 7-12 were especially susceptible to the high pitched noises and tones that featured in the music and would suffer from intense migraines. The story goes that, in more severe cases, others struggled to get the theme song out of their heads and saw no option but to commit suicide to end the torment.
