10 Disappointing Video Games That Never Lived Up To The Hype
6. Star Fox Zero
In another story of tragically long and troubled development, 2016's Star Fox Zero was designed to show off the full potential of the Wii U and its gamepad controller. Unfortunately however it ended up being a clunky, gimmicky experience which was hugely disappointing.
After originally announced in 2014, and briefly being shown off at E3 2014, the game was teased over several months across 2015.
As part of the promotion Nintendo also held a fan art competition for the game with the winners receiving Nintendo E-Shop credits. This competition helped generate a huge amount of hype for the game.
Sadly though, the forceful inclusion of the Wii U Gamepad led to a ridiculously awkward and difficult control scheme. Many critics noted that you had to play through the game twice just to get to grips with such an awkward feel, comprising aiming with gyroscopes alongside tracking other aspects on your TV. Another common criticism was the game's similarity to Star Fox 64, with the new game essentially a rehash of the first with very little new.
With no port to Nintendo Switch which released a few months later, the game faded into obscurity as an abject failure.
