10 Disappointing Video Games That Never Lived Up To The Hype
5. No Man's Sky
From personal experience, the hype train following this game was absolutely huge in 2013 when No Man's Sky was first revealed.
It was touted as an independent game that would feature an infinitely generated universe for players to explore with endless possibilities. It was hyped to show the true potential of the Playstation 4, and before release seemed to be one of the most unique game concepts in the world.
When the game eventually saw the light of day however in mid-2016, players and reviewers notice that whilst an infinite amount of new worlds were capable of being generated, they were all generated from the same set of assets. For example the same biomes and creatures would pop up from planet to planet, creating eerily similar-looking worlds and creatures. This unfortunately made the gameplay experience incredibly limiting.
The gameplay also turned out to be extremely repetitive. The main issue was that despite being able to travel to and generate a seemingly infinite number of worlds, you could only do the same thing on these worlds you could do on every other world.
In recent years thanks to several updates and ports to other consoles including the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, the gameplay experienced has improved dramatically. Despite this the game still massively underdelivered on its initial promises of interstellar glory.
