10 Divisive Video Game Endings Nobody Agrees On

3. Mass Effect 3

Mass Effect 3 ending
Bioware

Considering the sheer amount of unified vitriol aimed at Bioware after the release of Mass Effect 3, you€™d think the response to this infamous ending would be near unanimous. However, time has allowed gamers to move on and accept the ending for what it is, and while it is the opinion of many that it is still a colossal misfire, there are plenty of those who embrace it for its refusal to coddle towards expectations.

Those that hate the ending have plenty of legitimate reasons for doing so. They claim it feels rushed and shallow, that it exposes major plot holes and contradicts previously established lore, and worst of all, lacks the heart and soul that made so many connect with the Mass Effect universe in the first place.

Others genuinely admire it for its bitter sweet ambitions. Instead of giving fans everything they wanted, it forced them to make a hard choice that fundamentally changes the galaxy they fell in love with, followed by an open-ended conclusion with no answers. It is a cold and bleak ending with only a glimmer of hope, and after investing hours into the journey of Commander Shepard, many fans felt more than depressed.

Legitimate arguments can be made for both sides, and a great portion of the internet has been dedicated towards debating this very subject. Whether you love or hate it, there€™s no denying the impact the ending of Mass Effect 3 had on so many people.
