10 Divisive Video Game Endings Nobody Agrees On
4. Bioshock
Nearly a decade on and Bioshock is still considered one of the all time great video games; a creative triumph that shows off the power of the art form like few others. That being said, even many of those that profess their adoration for the game admit that the ending, specifically everything after the jaw-dropping twist, isnt quite up to the same standards at everything that came before it.
A lot of people specifically have a problem with the fact that Bioshock ends with a traditional boss fight against an ADAM-fueled Frank Fontaine, claiming that it feels out of place and silly after the more thoughtful events that preceded it. Many also have an issue with the all or nothing endings, making Jack either an angelic savior or an immoral monster.
Others have no problem with this, feeling the final boss fight contradicts nothing and adheres to the same design philosophy that makes Bioshock such a great game. After all, Fontaine isnt the only boss you face in the game, so the final conflict with him is a natural way to end it. And while their may only be two different endings, they are both interesting and different enough to make playing through it twice a must.
