6. The Wii
There is a reason that the Wii has such a prominent size of the market. Many game reviewers almost view its very presence in the gaming world as a crime of nature, a blasphemy that cannot be eradicated. The reasons for this vary from reviewer to reviewer but for some its the fact that as a gaming console it doesn't seem to be taking itself seriously. Games are mostly angled to the family-orientated audience rather than the serious gamer and games that are targeted at the latter do not have the specs nor the functionality that the XBox 360 or PS3 has due to their motion sensor controls. However, there is little doubt that when it comes to party games, the Wii has a majority share. Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort, Mario Party, Mario Kart, Mario Tennis, Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympics, Mario and Sonic at the Summer Olympics are all games that are designed to be played in the company of friends. No game that makes you wave your hands up and down really fast in order to sprint on the screen is one that is designed to be played by your lonesome. The Nintendo Wii is a great way to introduce your girlfriend to the world of games simply because many of its games are like candy- sweet, presentable, fun, insubstantial and without any lasting effects (unlike Mass Effect, no choice in Mario Party is going to cause long term grief). However, there is possibly a better vehicle to get your girlfriend into gaming.
