2. Crusade Relics Are Bonkers

Another benefit of not playing named characters is that once your own heroes’ level up they can be granted a powerful Relic of the Crusade rather than a battle honour.

The Warhammer 40,000 Core rulebook has several of these Crusade Relics that can be granted to any faction while playing the game mode. Some of these really bolster the weak points of certain factions.

Take the Tau for example, they don’t get a lot of options when it comes to protecting themselves from the powers of the Warp. A Relic like the “Blackstone Shard Amulet” that doesn’t allow any psychic powers to be cast upon the unit will make your Commander safe to dive into a pit of psykers fusion blasters… blasting!

Not only this but a single character can have multiple Crusade relics at any one time. That Tau Commander could be beefed up with all the bling they can carry, if you so wished.

Games Workshop are also providing faction specific Crusade Relics within each of the codices along with additional supplements such as “Beyond the Veil”. When deciding on what direction to take your character, a Crusade Relic is never a bad way to go to make them feel more heroic.
