10 Essential Video Games You Can Beat In Under 3 HOURS
2. Gris - 2 Hours
Gris opens with our titular heroine lost in a colourless earth. While an unexplained darkness follows her, Gris must traverse the lands, solve puzzles, and awaken abilities to restore life to the world.
It may sound corny, but it’s hard to describe this platformer without using words like “majestic” and “magnificent”. With its beautiful architecture, poignant music, and wondrous puzzles, it’s impossible not to be captivated. Your playthrough will be brief, but that won't hinder you from utterly falling in love with this world.
One interesting aspect which could've made the game fall apart is the lack of fail-states. There's no health bar and no chance of a game over. Although there are obstacles and a recurring foe who will divert your part, you can't die.
Even though this decision could've taken out all potential challenge, it works in the game's favour. You get so invested in achieving your tasks, you feel genuine tension every time you see your enemy approach, knowing his sole purpose is to stop you from bringing about peace.
Although Gris has been available for a while, a 4K 120FPS port was made available on most modern consoles last December. So, the big question is: Why haven't you played it yet??
