10 Exact Moments Sh*t Got Real In Great Video Games
1. Jet-Li: Rise To Honour - Fei And Hung
Rise To Honour is, in effect, a film in a game's clothing. Much like The Warriors the following year, this PS2 classic draws heavily from and builds upon famous cinematic scenes and tropes. Controlling a virtual Jet-Li, you master an intuitive combat system which enables you to do all of the things you would expect from a martial arts hero, pummeling, dodging, blocking, countering, sweeping, flying through the air while shooting, and getting cinematic slow-motion shots for your critical strikes.
The first boss battle begins in pursuit of a pony-tailed villain who, in true hong-kong action style, duplicitously lures you into a rooftop battle. You fly on to the roof, striking a Batman-Esque pose, only to have a duplicate of your prey emerge from nowhere. It's a trap! The twins Fei and Hung proceed to move in synchronicity, one fly-kicking you in the back of the head while you try to break down the other. It is not the most difficult task to get a handle on, but when you realise your trouble has just doubled, it is an eye-rolling, forehead-slapping, oh sh*t moment.
