10 Exceptional First-Person Shooter Games That Defined The Last 10 Years

8. Metro: Last Light

Boy has Metro come a long way since the '80s. Last Light is a dark journey that starts in the tragic city of Moscow, one that has been devastated by a nuclear war. The gameplay itself thrives because it forces you to think about everything: bullet conservation, stealth and out-smarting your opponents are key aspects of trying to survive. The weapons are great and upgradable, making you feel all the more powerful. The atmosphere is also dark, scary and down right creepy throughout. And right when you think it can't get any worse, you find yourself out of the catacombs of the city and staring into the atmosphere-clad night. This is when the action really get frightening, as you're confronted by creepy creatures, soldiers and everything else inbetween. The game does a fantastic job of building up the tension before anything actually happens, of course - an aspect that really sets it apart from other shooters.
