5. I Am Setsuna

With its Western release coming up next month, I Am Setsuna is not a game you'll have to wait long to get your hands on. Like many other JRPG titles, the game puts you in control of a party of characters as you navigate through angled, top-down environments including dungeons, towns and all of the other classic RPG settings.

The world in I Am Setsuna is gripped by a perpetual winter, however, and these supposedly familiar environments may not seem so mundane after all. The story centres on a mercenary and his charge, the titular Setsuna, who must be sacrificed at a sacred shrine in an attempt to appease hostile demons invading the land.

One of the game's largest themes is that of sadness and, though this may not sound entirely entertaining if you want a carefree challenge, Setsuna's willing journey to the ritual site will be fraught with emotional moments and encounters. It's a classic hearkening to so many successful 1990s RPGs, and could just be the best example of the genre we've seen in the last decade.
