10 Most Expensive Console Launch Prices

6. Mattell Intellivision/PSX/PS2/Xbox/Xbox 360/Wii U - $300

Ps2 Six consoles sit at the start of the higher tier launch prices of $300, with the Mattell Intellivision being the first ever console to launch at such a price. The Intellivision took the gaming world by storm in 1979 with its graphical prowess and went onto sell 3 million units before being discontinued in 1984. The Atari 2600 had been dominating the gaming scene until the Intellivision arrived and actually put in a serious performance as the new king in town. The TV remote style controller offered changeable inlays if you were bored with the already lackluster colour scheme. The innovative Intellivoice brought in the most basic of voice command games, four in total, but you have to commend Mattell for trying to stand out and innovate the already saturated console market. Mattell Intellivision was Mattell's only venture into the console market until their child focused return in 2006 with the unheard of HyperScan. Inflation Price: $848 The PSX, PS2, Xbox and Xbox 360 are also very well known and successful consoles in their own right, with the PS2 being the best selling console of all time with a lifetime sales of 158 million and a few thousand games on offer for any hardcore collectors to wade through. The Wii U is only a year into its lifespan and although not selling as fast as its bigger brother, it is sure to do well in its own market over the coming years with its more casual approach to gaming, while offering a handful of gaming gems of its own.
