10 Most Expensive Video Games Of All Time

7. Disney Infinity - $100 Million

Disney knew they had a cash cow on their hands with this figurine-based smash hit - you have to assume that they called it Infinity because that's how much money Disney expects to make with this one over the coming years. How many dollars? $ infinity. They must have seen how Activision's bank account was overflowing with Skylanders revenue and decided they wanted a piece of that action. And why not? Disney owns some of the most loved, most widely recognised characters in entertainment history, an unmissable opportunity to print money on a vast scale. Disney Interactive had been taking a bit of a knock, failing to capture much attention with stand-alone titles like Epic Mickey 2 which struggled at retail. Disney Infinity was, some would say, an "all or nothing" scenario - they restructured and refocused to plough resources into this new project, spending "over $100 million" to put it all together. But Disney needn't have worried. By February 2014 they had sold 3 million starter packs, surpassing their own expectations. A starter pack, which includes a copy of the game, the base station and three figurines, is significantly more expensive than your average game, and when you factor in the piles of additional figures sold separately - and how many are still to come - you can almost smell the fresh dollar bills.

Game-obsessed since the moment I could twiddle both thumbs independently. Equally enthralled by all the genres of music that your parents warned you about.
