10 Extremely Expensive Upcoming Video Games (That Have Already Flopped)
7. Dead Island 2
Much like zombies, Dead Island 2 may be a game doomed to roam the Earth until it's finally put to rest. Passed up by Dead Island 1 developer Techland, DI2 was given to Yager Development, best known for making Spec Ops: The Line. After a single gameplay video uploaded and a promising cinematic trailer, publisher Deep Silver dropped Yager and the game fell into development hell.
After a lot of quiet and, the project acquired developer Sumo Digital in 2016. However, with Sumo Digital being considerably busy with Crackdown 3, it's clear the studio can't quite make DI2 their priority project.
All of this leaves Dead Island 2 in some kind of limbo, seemingly abandoned without any upward progression.
Even with the belief that Deep Silver won't just cancel the project, its likelihood of failure is too great, particularly after it has lost the interest of the gaming masses. Zombie fatigue is developing among a continually-growing percentage and if Dead Island 2 only serves up more of what's come before, it'll be cast aside quickly.
