10 Extremely Expensive Upcoming Video Games (That Have Already Flopped)

4. Beyond Good & Evil 2

STAR Citizen
Ubisoft

When looking at what's been teased so far for Beyond Good and Evil 2, it's amazing to think of how massive in scope the sequel is, particularly in comparison to its predecessor. Looking at all of the new promotional material and raw gameplay footage, it's a project that is remarkably ambitious. So ambitious, in fact, that you may have forgotten how much of a financial flop the first game was.

Whereas the first one was poorly marketed and was ultimately doomed to fail, this installment may actually end up being overly-hyped. With the sequel attempting to pull off the absurdly-complicated nature of a sci-fi open world/shared universe experience (like a AAA No Man's Sky with a dedicated story mode), the pressure is getting more intense. The first game may have its dedicated fan base, but will they be able to power the sequel to the heights that it's reaching for?

If Ubisoft continues reaching for the stars without doing the proper marketing and convincing of hard-to-convince gamers, BGAE2 won't stand a chance. Too much is riding on a product that doesn't have significant name recognition among both casual and hardcore gamers.

Although the saying "Too big to fail" usually holds true, in gaming, this sequel will likely end up being too big to succeed.
