10 Extremely Expensive Upcoming Video Games (That Have Already Flopped)

3. Final Fantasy VII Remake

STAR Citizen
Square Enix

Out of every dream remake on all the 'Most Wanted' lists, Final Fantasy VII is the most prominent. Massively influential for both the industry and many lifelong gamers, it's the perfect RPG in many peoples' eyes. That's why gamers feel that a remake will take the timeless components of the original product (the story and characters), mix it with modern tech and combat, and update the game so it plays for modern gamers exactly as you remember it all those years ago.

And from the limited gameplay shown off so far, Square Enix seems intent on providing that level of experience. However, with each passing day and the complete lack of updates on the project, it's clear SE announced the game that isn't coming anytime soon.

Not an uncommon problem with AAA titles, but once the five year anniversary of that initial announcement trailer hits and there's little progression to show off, it's as if the game reverts to something hypothetical rather than a reality.

It's concerning how similar this project is to the development process of Final Fantasy XV, a title that seemed to be named after the number of years it was in development.
