10 Fan-Demanded Video Game Sequels That Should NEVER Happen

Black was low-key one of the best first-person shooters of the PS2 generation. With production values that were absolutely mind-blowing at the time, the developers at Criterion were committed to making the most bombastic action game ever. The gunplay wasn't functionally all that different from similar releases at the time, but Black cranked everything up to 11 and made sure to not skimp on the finer details.

Firing a machine gun felt like firing a cannon at lightning speed, while grenades popped with the flair of a Michael Bay explosion which, combined with semi-destructible environments and great particle effects, made for ridiculously hectic firefights that never stopped being fun.

So, you might be thinking: "if it's so good, why didn't the developers make a sequel?". Well, they kinda did. The original game didn't sell well enough for a straight follow up, but the leads formed another studio to craft a spiritual successor, Bodycount.

Sadly, while their aims were pure, that game proved just how much of Black's success was lightning in a bottle. Although it improved on some of the first title's weaker aspects (like the uninspired visual design), the gunplay was completely botched. Even if they did manage to rectify that, the little details that made Black so memorable are standard practice today, so a sequel would just be another face in the crowd.
