10 Fatal Video Games That Killed Popular Franchises
2. Medal Of Honour: Warfighter
Released in 2012, Medal of Honour: Warfighter was the fourteenth
instalment in the series, and the sequel to the 2010 reboot, titled Medal of
Honour. Unlike its predecessor, the game was a critical and commercial failure,
and was heavily criticised for its story, buggy gameplay and terrible graphics.
It was also shipped in an incomplete state, and even after the game received a
massive day-one patch, it was still broken and barely playable.
In 2013, EA announced that the series was being taken out of rotation due to the game’s “poor critical and commercial reception”, which was a huge understatement. In truth, Warfighter was a complete travesty with almost no redeeming qualities, and it did irrevocable damage to the reputation of modern military shooters. The game did almost nothing right, and was singlehandedly responsible for the coining of the term “Spunkgargleweewee”.
Worse still, Medal of Honour: Warfighter not only resulted in the death of the franchise – a franchise which began way back in 1999 and managed to survive multiple console generations – it also resulted in the closure of EA’s Los Angeles studio. So, in conclusion, the game was an utter disaster, and should be remembered as such, forever.
