10 Forgotten Horror Game Franchises That NEED A Reboot
8. Nightmare Creatures
Despite laying dormant for close to two decades now, it's genuinely quite surprising how often the name Nightmare Creatures comes up in discussion. Gothic horror is all the rage these days and not only in the gaming sphere, with plenty of films and television getting aboard the moody, creepy goth train.
Way back in the PS1 era, Nightmare Creatures was flying the flag for gothic horror in a way that few other games were willing to. Not only did it feature all the classic atmosphere, architecture and narrative beats that one would come to expect from the genre, but it paired it with a fast-paced, crunchy melee combat system that rewarded player skill with fountains of gore and satisfying dismemberment.
It's become a firm cult classic for a reason and its sequel - the aptly named Nightmare Creatures 2 - is fondly remembered by some but reviled by others. A third game was reportedly in the works but was unfortunately scrapped, which is a shame as given the right team behind it, a new Nightmare Creatures game could scratch the itch for those amongst us who live in hope that one day we'll get a sequel to Bloodborne.
